rejoice, rejoice, rejoice! ben blogs.
for those of you who've read my previous entry, i am now in SAJC. not ACJC. not TJC. not TPJC.
nothing wrong, only three MINOR disappointments :
1) no MEP is offered in SAJC. this is the most sickening thing about my jc life right now, knowing that i am missing out on a plethora of musical enrichment and the chance to kill two birds with the MEP stone.
2) SAJC did not live up to my pre-conceived expectations. the mental image formed by my friends, and cousin (remotely related) was that SAJC was this really hip happening and funky school. maybe my definition of hip happening and funky happened to differ slightly. in today's context, where humans my age are expected to behave in a certain way to be considered 'hip happening and funky' in society, i guess SAJC is a very hip happening funky school. and i thought there were supposed to be dynamic and 'good (according to my definition)' teachers. hmm.
3) JC bloody sucks. to limbo with the 'prestige'. enough said.
not much has happened in the months that have passed. i've won the national a division bowling championships with the SAJC bowling team, albeit as a reserve who did not play a single match and whose cheers went unheard. the teachers were trying to instil the team spirit nonsense and that everyone played a part. i smell through their lies and i am actually considering a transfer to the Concert Band, where i will have a stand and where i will be able to fulfill my musical aspirations sans MEP. and i've actually been studying. studying to make sure i get at least a chance at getting O passes for all my mid year papers. yes that is possible all thanks to chinese b. thar-man's the-man, man. shanmuga-shanmuga-shanmugaRatNam x2 (sung along to heterophonic vina solo, accompanied by mridangam) !
it is with much pride that i admit, i mean promulgate, to the world that i have never studied as hard as i have in the past few months in my entire life. indeed it has taken a toll on my overall health : emotionally, mentally and physically. in the days just before my june 'holidays' (yes holidays indeed when you have a major exam right after), i was a shadow of my former self. of course, those in SAJC wouldn't know (they don't even know i play music), but those who've known me before i entered SAJC all noticed that 1) i am not as crazy and spontaneous 2) i've got eyebags 3) i'm quieter 4) i'm losing weight while not gaining any cardiovascular power, among other negative observations. i felt it too. did not have the clarity of thought and sharp wit i used to possess in tpjc.
the holidays weren't much either. they were spent wallowing in guilt and worry. but they did help. i managed to get enough sleep, for one. and that's a good thing! i've just finished my mid years. a quarter of my jc life's over. and man am i glad. i just wish to get all this over and done with. and then i'll proceed to do do some mundane degree and lead a mundane life that earns me enough money to retire comfortably. if luck shines on me i will be able to fulfill my dream of becoming a touring musician. that is highly unlikely. i sound like an untouchable professional to the layman but in front of a true untouchable, i am not a musician. that is why i think a career in music will not work out for me.
on a lighter note, i am actually quite proud to wear my SAJC uniform. for one thing i feel that it looks great on almost everyone, provided they wear it the 'SAJC way'. as in the tie cannot be too high up, trousers sagging a little, etc. and provided its not overdone (ever so often you see a Saint with trousers revealing half their buttcheeks and with skirts that look like primeval strips of hide). the SAJC uniform will get you attention almost anywhere, by it in town or the heartland. it is rather interesting to observe the varied reactions to the uniform. for example the look of (envious) disgust on ACJC-ians and the i-never-saw-the-saint-and-i-am-going-to-just-walk-by-with-my-head-up-and-eyes-straight-so-that-the-Saint-will-stare-at-me-in-godlike-admiration sported by RJC-ians. of course, take this with a pinch of salt.
i am feeling much better now. and the shadow of my former self has begun to regain its third dimension and its colour and i am re-emerging, stronger, as the benjamin the tpjc-ians knew,
ceteris paribus! :D
